PlantPills Trace: Safety and Authenticity Verification

The PlantPills Trace system bridges the physical product with the digital information associated with it.
Use your smartphone to scan the codes on the Safety and Authenticity Verification label on your product to quickly and easily review the independent third-party laboratory testing for your specific batch, and the logistical tracking information associated with your order.

Scanning the left and middle QR codes on the Safety and Authenticity Verification label will open the independent lab tests performed on this batch. The batch number present on the testing certifications can be verified against the batch number on the packet, linking the packet in-hand to the independent testing.

The QR code located to the right of the Safety and Authenticity Verification label will open the tracking information and delivery confirmation for your order. The tracking number can be verified against the tracking number provided in the order confirmation email, and is also located on the outside of the main shipping package. This links the packet in-hand to the logistical information associated with it.

The Safety and Authenticity Verification label, and the seal on the physical packet are both tamper-evident, ensuring that the packet in-hand is genuine, authentic and hasn’t been tampered with in transit.

The Safety and Authenticity Verification label contains three matrix type barcodes known as Quick Response (QR) codes. These enable a smartphone to scan the codes and instantly retrieve the digital information associated with the product.

To scan these QR codes, open the camera app on your smartphone and point it at the QR codes. QR codes can only be scanned one at a time, so cover the two codes you don’t want to scan and follow the link when prompted. Some Android phones may require using the Lens feature located within the Google app to scan QR codes.

We are working on a solution where the trace system could be incorporated into the blockchain, a technological advancement that could have wide-ranging applications in a number of industries.

Potential benefits of this include the data being non-fungible and decentralised, while the challenges include storing relatively large data such as images on a blockchain. It’s also important that the data is easy to retrieve and only viewable by the person with the product in their physical possession.
